The Cardiff Near Test
The Cardiff Near Test is designed for near visual acuity measurement
in young children, and in older children or adults with intellectual
impairment. The test uses the same familiar pictures as the
Cardiff Acuity and Contrast tests, plus two additional ones
– eight pictures in all. The test uses naming, matching
or signing and so is suitable for children from around 3 years
of age.
The Cardiff Near Test was developed by Dr. J. Margaret Woodhouse,
at the School of Optometry & Vision Sciences, Cardiff University,
UK . It has been rigorously validated in scientific studies.
The Cardiff Near Test contains 14 acuity levels in LogMAR steps
from 1 (6/60, 20/200) to -0.3 (6/3, 20/10). It also has a matching
or preparation card.
The test is portable, comes with its own carry-case and full
instructions.
