The Cardiff Near Test - Specification
The Cardiff Near Test comprises two test cards and a matching
card, each approximately 20 by 27 cm.
The matching card is white with the pictures drawn in black
outline – they are therefore highly visible. The test
cards have the grey background familiar in the Cardiff range
of tests.
The first test card consists of 6 rows of vanishing optotype
pictures in a LogMAR sequence calibrated for acuities of
1 (6/60, 20/200) to 0.5 (6/19, 20/93) for a viewing distance
of 33cm (13 in). The second test card consists of eight
rows calibrated for acuities of 0.4 (6/15, 20/50) to -0.3
(6/3, 20/10) The steps between lines are 0.1 LogMAR and
all lines on both cards contain 3 pictures, each equal to
0.033 LogMAR, so that individual pictures can be scored.
